Women's Lunch
The Fellowship Room in Church House lived up to its name on the Saturday of
the "If I were God …" Mission Week as forty eight female Church family members
and guests joined in fellowship to share a meal together. Those who attended
the Women's Lunch sat down at tables, with a glass of wine or fruit juice, and
enjoyed lively conversations as they were waited upon by a team of male volunteers
(or were they conscripts?) serving three courses of homemade food.
Two members of the Cornhill team were the guest speakers at the lunch. Rachel gave her testimony of how she came to know Jesus through attending a Christian venture holiday, although it was only after the holiday was over that she realised how much she wanted what her fellow venturers had, a living relationship with Jesus. Following a reunion, Rachel took the life-changing step of inviting Jesus into her life. Jennifer spoke about being a Christian woman in the world today. Whereas public opinion emphasises physical looks and fitness as a priority for today's woman,
Jennifer challenged us to look at ourselves as God sees us - our inner self. Reading from passages of the Bible, she explained how sin makes us ugly inside and it is the inner self that we need to get into shape. We cannot do this by ourselves as only God's forgiveness can make us clean. God gave his Son, Jesus, to give up his life for our sins so that we can be forgiven. That is why we need Jesus in our lives. Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, will change us to reveal an inner beauty, which is what really counts.
Several non-Christians who attended have since commented on how thought provoking the talks were. The lunch was a great success and many thanks to all those who helped behind the scenes. One guest apparently asked when the next lunch was to be held as she had enjoyed this one so much!
