The "If I Were God..." week - A Night of Tricky Questions

A Night of Tricky Questions
Almost 50 people turned up at The Stirrup Cup in Barton Seagrave to take part inthe Pub Quiz that we had organised as part of the Mission week. Well, we had organised the questions and the rounds but one of our number (me!) had forgotten to bring the paper for the teams to use to write their answers on and the jokers that were necessary for the teams to attempt to double their score. However, spare paper was found and one of the Mission team showed great artistic talent and produced excellent jokers very quickly.

The teams of participants were instructed to invent a team name (for which the best would receive a prize) and the quiz began. We started with what we thought was an easy round where there were only two possible answers to each question. Jokers were allowed after this round but the teams were not told the subject area for the round until after they had decided whether to play their jokers. Rounds included history, geography, English Literature, trivia, food and drink, sport and music. Some of the rounds were easier than others with probably the first music round causing most difficulty. The organising team are grateful to Jen Hodgson for producing questions for the food and drink and the English Literature round and to Steve Davies for the sports round (there was only one question about Wolves!)

Just before the final results were announced the Mission Team (Neil and Jennifer) talked to the assembled masses in the lounge of the Stirrup Cup, Jennifer interviewing Neil about his experiences as a Christian and the questions he has had for himself.

The winning team (Channel 4) managed to score 134 points out of a possible 200 and had a number of other teams hot on their heels.

Thanks again to everyone who turned up and contributed in whatever way to make the evening so enjoyable.

Graham Bell

Thirteen teams of four members turned up to this enjoyable event to 'pit their wits' against ten rounds of questions put together by Ken Ansdell, Graham Bell and Stuart Watson. Jen and Neil from the Cornhill Team were quizmasters for the evening taking it in turn to test us with rounds such as history, literature, geography and food and drink. I don't think anyone did particularly well on the Classical Music and I'm glad that my parents were on our team as I think that nine out of the ten songs on the pop music round were older than my friend and I!

After we had all been questioned and had munched our way through the buffet, Jen then asked Neil some questions about how he became a Christian, the difference it made to his life and what his faith means to him.

Following Neil's testimony it was announced that Nick and Claire Johnson's team "Channel 4" were the winners and were presented with some bottles of wine for their amazing feat of general knowledge.
