The "If I Were God..." week - Flowers for Special Occasions

Flowers for Special Occasions
It may have been freezing February, but the wonderful variety of flowers belied the unseasonal timing of this enjoyable evening event. Sheila Pearson demonstrated her ability to arrange flowers beautifully whilst entertaining us with her poetry, recollections and chat. We all shared her enthusiasm for God's glorious greenery in its many varied forms and enjoyed gathering wonderful specimens from a wide variety of (free) sources!

The final product was a beautiful centre piece for a buffet table. Not, perhaps, something to be attempted by the more faint-hearted amongst us, the complicated "mechanics" of the decoration would have defeated me, and Sheila's tales of pedestals falling over and candlesticks toppling to the ground were enough to put off the nervous amateur! However, there were lots of tips and ideas to take away to have a go at something a little simpler.

The flower demonstration was followed by a short talk given by Rachel of the Cornhill team. She read the story of the rich man who was told by Jesus that it was easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to find a place in God's kingdom. She reminded us of the importance of putting God first in our lives if we are to find our place in Heaven.

The evening was completed with coffee and cakes and I'm sure that everyone took away with them not only Rachel's message, but also a quiet determination to do a little more than remove the rubber band when they next buy a bunch of flowers.
